Reflection Title - Do the Opposite of What Everyone Else is Doing!
Book - Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne
Book Description: Blue Ocean Strategy asserts that these strategic moves create a leap in value for the company, it's buyers, and its employees while unlocking new demand and making the competition irrelevant. The book presents analytical frameworks and tools to foster an organization's ability to systematically create and capture "blue oceans"—unexplored new market areas.
My Reflection: Every day that passes, I'm becoming more and more in favor of being in the camp that says to do the EXACT OPPOSITE of what everyone else is doing if you really want to have an impact in this world.
If everyone goes to college, don't go to college. If everyone wants to work at a tech company, don't work at a tech company. If everyone wants to get funding from a VC Firm and launch their own company, find another way. If everyone is investing in crypto currency or another "hot stock", don't invest in that.
I know this line of thinking sounds scary and stupid. You'll probably ask, if we don't know what to do, how will be able to provide for our families and live our lives? Short answer, I don't know, but I'm confident you'll figure it out if you just use your imagination. Stop running at the known and start dreaming about the unknown and work on building that world.
We humans are hive creatures that love following the masses to be told "the right path" toward happiness and success. We are obsessed with consistency, order, and stability. We want to know that if we put in the work, this will be our expected outcome. However, this isn't how life works. The biggest leaps in everything in life comes from the extremes and not the mean. Paths that are unknown and unseen today is what will shape our future. If you want to leave a lasting impact on this world, start to think differently from the crowd, challenge the status quo, and forge your own path in the exact opposite direction. Who knows where it will lead you, but you just might change the world.
